Tom joined Ingham Mora in 2016 and took over as partner when Andrew Walton retired in 2017. He leads a team of five accountants who are all committed to using Xero to the fullest and helping clients achieve more of the three freedoms – more time, more money and less stress. His clients are small to medium sized businesses in Tauranga and the wider Western Bay of Plenty. He has a wide range of clients and experience in industries such as the trades and construction, orchards, financial investments, rentals, forestry, retail and everything in-between.
Prior to joining Ingham Mora, Tom was the financial controller for a large forestry company based in Auckland. He also had eight years working for a Big 4 accounting firm which took him to Dublin, the Cayman Islands and Vancouver. Tom grew up in Tauranga, attending Bethlehem College and Tauranga Boys College. He completed his accounting degree at Waikato University. After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant he continued his education and obtained the Chartered Financial Analyst designation to increase his financial analysis skills.
In addition to sorting any IRD returns for clients he is passionate about helping clients look forward, not backwards – the traditional accountants view. Tom enjoys making use of his financial expertise and commercial experience to assist clients with practical and suitable answers to problems. Tom's repertoire includes business planning, succession planning, business valuations, forecasting, helping new businesses get going, and family trust management. He enjoys using Xero and related apps to provide timely management reporting throughout the year and acts as a ‘part time; or ‘virtual CFO’ to an increasing number of clients.
In his spare time Tom enjoys a bit of golf, going to the gym, and getting out of the office for family time. His Canadian born wife is a pre-school teacher and he has three young children aged 6, 3 and 4 months.
Tom’s clients often tell him they appreciate how clearly he explains things. He’s won a few new clients over recently who enjoy how responsive he and his team are and the high level of support they receive – something they weren’t getting with their old accountant. If you are keen to talk to someone who can help you keep the IRD in check, help solve business problems and provide the right level of support for you along the way, then get in touch with Tom for a free chat.
